Lifestyles of the Green and the Famous

Oscar singing Kermit’s song, “Not that easy bein’ green?”

No hoopla planned for a green carpet at this Sunday’s upcoming Academy Awards. Perhaps show business folks grew wary of the flack last year for eco inconsistencies with flight patterns. Or maybe more focus was put on ending the writer’s strike.

While Vanity Fair canceled their legendary after-party bash in sympathy with the writers, Global Green plans to celebrate again with their 5th Annual Pre-Oscar Party this Wednesday night. Tix range from $250 to $5,000, with proceeds going to the non-profit’s green houses in New Orleans and more.

Stars attending the gala include Adrien Grenier (between Entourage and prepping his show for Discovery Channel’s Planet Green), Alicia Silverstone, Val Kilmer, Dana Delany, Chris Kattan, Big Love’s Ginnifer Goodwin, Brothers and Sisters’ Balthazar Getty, and Pirates of the Caribbean’s Vanessa Branch. Also Salma Hayek and Josie Maran of the org’s committee of luminaries, which also includes Orlando Bloom, David Duchovny, Charlize Theron, Kate Bosworth, Ed Norton, and Leo D.

    Must Love Dogs

On TV and online, in print and at retail, Pedigree’s brand is puppy powered

Pedigree makes an emotional appeal for dog adoption in its new campaign.

On a rainy Saturday morning, dog lovers from around the country have lined up inside the Pedigree Dogstore in Times Square to get a first look at the dogs available for adoption. A sleepy beagle named Rex lies against a wall, nonchalantly lifting his head once in a while to check out the commotion brewing around him. A hound named Cherokee wags a tail and sniffs at every leg that passes. And volunteers from New York no-kill shelter Animal Haven cradle puppies from a Labrador-mix litter. Downstairs, a black puppy sitting on a woman’s lap in a street-level store window draws in pedestrians bustling along the busy midtown Manhattan street.

    First look: ‘X-Files’

First look: ‘X-Files’ returns to theaters, minus alien mythology
    By Scott Bowles, USA TODAY

LOS ANGELES - The sequel is out there.

The conspiracy theories will not be.

Ten years after the first film and six years after the show went off the air, The X-Files returns to theaters with Fox Mulder, Dana Scully and a lot riding on the bet that fans want more of the FBI’s paranormal-investigating agents.

The film, which remains without a formal title, will dump the long-running “mythology” plotline that aliens live among us and are part of a colonizing effort that made it one of the most popular television shows in the late 1990s but ultimately drove away some viewers who found it too complex and ambiguous.

“We spent a lot of time on (the mythology) and wrapped up a lot of threads” when the show went off the air in 2002, says Chris Carter, creator of the series and director of the new movie. “We want a stand-alone movie, not a mythology conspiracy one.”
