A Review by 'HM' (Positive, Minor Spoilers)
    March 2001

Directed by Ghostbuster helmer Ivan Reitman and starting David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Seann William Scott, 7-up's bitch I mean spokeperson Orlando Jones (no offense he's one of the funniest) among others, deals with a different kind of alien invasion.

In a different sequence than the teaser trailer, a meteorite crashes into an open field near a small town. Seann William Scott, a wannabe firefighter loser is witness to the crash. Two community college teachers, Duchovny and Jones, find out about it and go to inverstigate. They notice that some liquid comes out of the meteorite as they get a sample back at the biology lab. Duchovny notices that liquid off the rock is alive and the unicells in it beging reproducing. Unicelled organisms become multicelled as the beging their evolution. They go back and now it seems that stuff is growing around the rock, and there are even live worms that die once you take them out of the gasses created by the strange plant. They take more samples back and are looking for ways to cash in off their discovery. Jones asks if they should notice the government as this "may" be something that they should be interested in. But Duchovny replies; "No, I know those guys and you can't trust them" (of course this has to do with his character's past and also a nod to.. you know)

By the next day the army is already there and they get the boot. Robbed out of their findings and all credit taken away from them. We discover that Duchovny used to be in the army, as a biologist that messed up and ended up dishonorably discharged. Julianna Moore is there as a very clumsy scientist. (and the love interest of course)

The aliens start to evolve into more like insects and "dogs", even dragons. And they're hungry. Duchovny and Jones team up with Seann as he brings them an specimen that killed a guest at a country club he worked at, and died when he came in contact with the atmosphere. They team up to look for more, as they seem to be more sightings and find out the aliens can now breath regular air! Evolution for the aliens has taken its final step. Now they have to find a way to stop them as they are reproducing at a fast rate and with the help of Julianne Moore.

I liked the movie, maybe the fact that the sound was done and it was presented in all its Digital nature! and loud the way has to be. True to the Ghostbuster's PG feel, there are no deaths on screen and only a drop of blood. The only thing that I found "questionable" was the way the aliens are dealt with (think Mars Attack to get an idea) but overall it's very funny and if you get to see the same movie I saw with all the special effects (finished of course) and all the scenes intact I'd recommend it. Otherwise blame those paid freeloaders that changed it. (and maybe the studio that may want to change some material to make it PG)
