Duchovny, Crudup Put Risque Spin On Their New “Trust”
David Duchovny does know how to turn a phrase. While chatting with this column in New York Sunday, the former ”X-Files” star said his new film, ”Trust the Man” (opening Aug. 18) doesn’t really confirm that ”Men are from Mars, women are from Venus.”
With co-star Billy Crudup laughing next to him, Duchovny quipped, ”We like to say this film proves ‘Women are from Mars, men have a penis’ ” — stressing that old adage about men tending to think with their, well … you know.
On a less R-rated subject, Duchovny said he’d be happy to reprise his iconic Fox Mulder role in another ”X-Files” flick, ”as long as they get the script right. … It’s in the works, but there’s nothing definite right now.”
Since Duchovny’s a famous actor married to another movie star (Tea Leoni), did that make it easier to identify with his role in ”Trust the Man” — married to Julianne Moore’s character, herself a well-known star?
”I guess so, but frankly I was more worried about screwing up [his good friend and Julianne Moore's husband] Bart’s [Freundlich] movie. … If I screw up the movie of some director I’m never going to see again, that’s one thing. But Bart’s my friend. If I screw up his movie, either we’re not going to be friends anymore, or we’ll stay friends, but every time I see him, I’ll think, ‘Damn! I screwed up his movie!’ ”
